Jen Armstrong, LLMSW
(She/Her)
Hello there! I am Jen Armstrong and I work with children ages 3 through young adults and caregivers with a specialization in working with grief, foster care, attachment, school issues, trauma, anxiety, and families in medically complex situations. I have worked in hospitals in the past as a child life specialist and have a special love for coming alongside families experiencing chronic illness, grief, or other medical experiences. I also have worked in the schools and have a passion for helping children and families through educational struggles. My therapeutic approach prioritizes safety in relationships, understanding the ‘why’ behind behaviors, and helping individuals and families develop new ways to cope and find joy together. I believe that every child, at every age, is capable of healing and growth and that every family is doing something right - and it is my honor to walk alongside families as they navigate growing stronger together. My therapeutic approach prioritizes safety in relationships, understanding the ‘why’ of a child’s behavior, and helping children and caregivers develop new ways to cope and find joy together.
In my therapy room, I’ll meet you and your child where you are, considering your unique personalities and the needs and experiences that have shaped your family. I also love doing work with caregivers and can provide individual parenting sessions when appropriate. I use play, sand tray, movement and mindfulness and body-based interventions, nature, art, puppetry, and other expressive arts to meet folks where they are!
I am also trained in and use trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy when appropriate. My approach is trauma-specific, incorporating attachment theory and age-appropriate techniques to address the impact of trauma on your or your child's relationships and behaviors.
I also have a passion for working with young adults or parents as they navigate grief, or all the challenges that come with major life changes. I believe that every person, at every age, is capable of healing and growth and that every family is doing something right - and it is my honor to walk alongside families as they navigate growing stronger together.
My goal is to provide a compassionate, well-rounded approach to therapy that empowers you and the entire family. Let's work together to help shift challenges into pathways for growth, resilience, and healing!
